CLEVELAND – The Compassus program serving Cleveland and the surrounding areas recognizes National Hospice and Palliative Care Month this November. This month brings attention to the importance of providing the highest quality care for all people coping with serious or life-limiting illness.
Hospice and palliative care both combine quality medical care with the emotional support patients and families need when facing serious or life-limiting illness. While hospice provides an additional layer of support to meet physical, emotional and spiritual needs at the end of life, palliative care focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness and can be offered alongside curative treatments.
“Every person deserves the opportunity to experience the highest possible quality of life, even in times of serious or life-limiting illness,” said Marc Brown, executive director for Compassus – Cleveland. “This year’s theme, ‘It’s About How You Live,’ focuses on the importance of living life to the fullest when time is limited. It’s about receiving comforting care and surrounding yourself and loved ones with heartfelt compassion and support. At Compassus, that’s exactly what we aim to provide our patients and families.”
Hospice is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance companies. Palliative care may be provided in addition to home health services, and consultative palliative care is covered by Medicare and most private insurance companies.
Throughout the month of November, Compassus – Cleveland will be joining organizations across the nation to recognize how important hospice and palliative care can be.
